Who she is

Thirty years in Arizona classrooms.

Nancy attended Arizona public schools from kindergarten through college at NAU, where she earned a degree in elementary education with an emphasis in math. She has held an Arizona teaching credential since 1994 and taught in Paradise Valley, Sierra Vista, and at Tucson High from 2013 to 2025, where she served five years as Physical Education Department Chair.

She lives in Tucson with her husband Andy. Their daughters Megan and Macie went through Arizona public schools their whole lives. She is a proud union member, a former president of Tucson NOW, and a Red Cross volunteer coordinator during the years her family was stationed at Fort Drum.

She was elected to the Arizona House in 2022 and taught at Tucson High through the 2025 school year while serving in office. She now serves as Assistant Minority Leader, the number two Democrat in the chamber.

Ranking Member on the Education Committee, where she has served every year since taking office, and a member of Appropriations and the budget team. She is also a member of the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (ADLCC), working to grow Democratic power in Arizona.

What she is fighting for

Four things that will decide the next decade in Arizona.

Public education is in crisis

Arizona has been defunding public education since the 1990s, when schools were forced to choose between PE, music, and art, and which students would get them.

Our buildings are falling apart. Many schools do not have reliable air conditioning. There are classrooms unusable because of asbestos and no money in the state budget to fix them. Bonds and overrides cannot raise enough. Infrastructure money has to come from the state.

Reproductive freedom and care

Every person deserves access to education about their own body, to birth control, to pre and post natal care, and to quality health care. Arizona has the money in its budget to fund care for women and children who cannot afford insurance.

I will fight until my daughters, my students, and everyone who is pregnant has the right to decide what happens to their own body. That is not a place for government.

Sensible gun legislation

This session I introduced a bill to repeal the preemption that stops Arizona cities from regulating firearms in their own communities, working closely with Pima County officials to bring it forward.

Every time an announcement comes over the intercom, part of me wonders whether this is the time I have to defend my students against an active shooter. That is not okay, and I will keep bringing legislation forward until it changes.

We are in a water crisis

We cannot just hope there will be enough water, because the truth is there will not be. I will work with water experts on policy that conserves what we have and finds better ways to cut the enormous volume used by agriculture.

The time to address this aggressively is now, so that Arizona and the people in it can keep living here.
